The Kohlmeier lab is part of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Memphis in Tennessee, USA. We study how behavior, environment, and social interactions shape the biology of insects across scales, from individuals to communities. Our work integrates controlled laboratory experiments with large scale field-based research to understand how organisms function in urban and natural environments. We focus on how environmental conditions and social context influence decision-making, communication, and fitness, and how these processes scale up to affect population dynamics and species interactions. By combining behavioral approaches, ecological data, and experimental manipulation, we aim to uncover the mechanisms that link environment, behavior, and biological outcomes in real-world systems.
